Community Language

1)Curran says there are six elements of nondefensive
learning: security, aggression, attention, reflection, retention, and
discrimination. Some of the ways these were manifest in our lesson were pointed
out in answer to questions 3 and 5. Can you find any other examples of these in
the class we observed?
Teachers who use the Community Method of Language
Learning want their students to learn to use the target language in a communicative
way. In addition, they want their students to learn about their own learning,
to assume a growing responsibility for it and to learn to learn from each
other. All these objectives can be achieved in a non-defensive way as a teacher
and the student deals with whole people, valuing both thoughts and feelings.
2)Curran claims learners pass through five stages of learning as they go from being a
beginning language learner to an advanced language 106 Community Language
Learning learner. As they experience these stages, they change from heing dependent
on the teacher to being mutually interdependent with the teacher.
Can you see how these students are dependent on the teacher now? Can you find
anything in the class we observed that encourages learner independence?
The student will always depend on the classroom
teacher because he / she knows him / her as his / her guide, the one who can
get it out, all of his / her doubts, even if the student feels capable of
exercising certain activities on his / her own, there is always more to learn.
Many times research is not enough because there is always something that needs
to be clarified and who the student focuses on, the teacher.
B Apply what you have understood about the Community
Language
Learning Method.
We can put in class an audio either short or long,
looking for the student to understand the audio the first time, if not, the
audio is repeated as many times as necessary until it is understood on the
other
hand the student repeats certain words where he can
listen to himself and realize his pronunciation and correct the movement of his
mouth as many times as possible so that he learns to modulate the expressed.
1)Have some students tape-record a conversation with
your help as the language counselor. Tell them to record only the target language.
After you have completed the conversation, think of five different activities to
help them process and review the target language conversation they have created while being
consistent with the principles of the Community Language Learning Method.
• First activity: listen to a paragraph on the tape
and repeat it
• Second activity: write a paragraph of what was heard
on the tape.
• Third activity: record and repeat the sentence
dictated by the teacher
• Fourth activity: record your classmates when
expressing sentences.
• Fifth activity: draw a conclusion in writing of what
was learned in class and give it to the teacher as proof that they learned the
lesson.
2)Try teaching a lesson as you normally do, but think
of your students in a whole-person way, if this is a new idea to you. Does this change the way you work? If so,
then how?
I have never taught in any institution or anything
like it but for what I learned in this methodology class I can realize that
there are many facets to start learning to people or students who want to know
the language of basic form and later advanced. After introducing myself as a
teacher I have them introduce themselves as students to break the ice then I
would start asking questions like what is the language? What do you know about
their structures? Among other things and from there I would start talking about
the topic to be discussed on that particular day, depending on the degree
assigned to me.
